Gastvortrag: Joël-François Durand
"The use of first-order beats in my Quatuor à cordes no.3 (2024)"
Joël-François Durand’s music has been described as “transparently organized, attractively colored, and surprisingly accessible, though without compromise or reactionary pandering” (Records International). It is characterized by rigorous structural procedures tempered by an innate lyrical sense and rich harmonic colors. Durand has composed for a wide variety of instrumental combinations. His music has been commissioned and performed by many leading ensembles and orchestras in Europe, the US, South America, and South Korea.
Besides being a composer and a teacher, Durand adds an unusual aspect to his creative activities: after a lengthy period of research, he founded in 2009 a company, Durand Tonearms LLC devoted to the manufacture of high-end tonearms for record players, of which the first model, the Talea™ was received enthusiastically by the audiophile community.
