Between Research and Activism: Futures of Music and Minority Studies

Das internationale Symposium Between Research and Activism: Futures of Music and Minority Studies bildet den Abschluss des gleichnamigen Projekts und soll die zukünftige Ausrichtung des Music and Minorities Research Center (MMRC) ab 2026 gestalten. Vom 12. bis 14. Februar bringt diese mehrtägige Veranstaltung internationale und lokale Forschende, Musiker_innen, Aktivist_innen, Community-Mitglieder sowie eine interessierte Öffentlichkeit zusammen, um in Präsentationen, Diskussionen und Austauschformaten miteinander in Dialog zu treten.

Das Symposium dient der Reflexion und Weiterentwicklung des zukünftigen Auftrags des MMRC und untersucht neue Synergien und Perspektiven, die in den zentralen Prinzipien des Zentrums verankert sind: engagierte Forschung, dialogische Wissensproduktion und eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Machtungleichgewichten. Diese Vision wird in unterschiedlichen Formaten umgesetzt, darunter wissenschaftliche Beiträge, Diskussionspanels, aktivistische Roundtables, künstlerische Performances und eine abschließende Festveranstaltung.

The international symposium Between Research and Activism: Futures of Music and Minority Studies will conclude the project of the same name, aiming to shape the future vision of the Music and Minorities Research Center (MMRC) from 2026 onward. Taking place from February 12–14 this multi-day event will bring together international and local researchers, musicians, activists, community members and the wider public for vibrant presentations, discussions, and exchange.

The symposium will evaluate the MMRC’s future mission and explore new synergies and directions rooted in its core principles of engaged research, dialogic knowledge production and critical engagement with power imbalances. This vision will be realised through various formats, including academic papers, discussion panels, activist roundtables, artistic performances and a celebratory closing event.
